The teaching of apothecary started in Limoges as soon as 1626. The college of medicine was founded in 1660. The school of medicine and pharmacy of Limoges was created by the decree of 1841, as 22 other schools in France. The faculty was founded in 1968.

This medal is a prize medal awarded to a first year pharmacy student.

This model was struck at least until 1902.
