Endo Laboratories were founded in 1920 and were originally named Intraveinous Products of America. It became Endo in 1935. The company was acquired by Dupont in 1969. In 1994, Endo was established as a separate entity and acted as Dupont Merck’s generic division. Endo became independant in 1997 by acquiring some products and assets from its mother company.

The medal commemorates the Endo Pharmaceuticals Building designed by the architect Paul Rudolph and completed in 1964. The building stands as an important example of the post-World War II industrial architecture.
