Ferdinand Frédéric Henri Moissan was born in Paris in 1852. He became apprentice-pharmacist in 1871 and pharmacist in 1879. He isolated fluorine in 1886. Professor of toxicology at the Paris School of Pharmacy, he continued his research on fluorinated compounds and received the Nobel Prize in 1906.

The present plaquette was issued by the Monnaie de Paris to commemorate the centennial of Moissan’s Nobel Prize.
