Antoine-Jérôme Balard (1802-1876)

This medal was struck in 1976 to commemorate the centenary of the death of A.J. Balard and the 150th anniversary of the discovery of bromine

Balard was born in Montpellier where he studied pharmacy. He became Pharm.D. in 1826, the year he discovered bromine. He later became professor of chemistry in Paris in 1846.
