The Laboratoire Monot was founded in 1919 by Lucien Monot. After WWI, he bought a stock of Calomel from the US army to extract the mercury in a distillation oven, represented on the reverse side of the medal, and manufactured mercury containing-ointments. In 1965, Lucien’s son, Pierre, founded a holding Groupement européen pharmaceutique. Monot was bought by Merck in 1996 and in 2002 it became Merck Medication Familiale.
